I've had “new substack” on my digital to-do list for over a week, and I really thought today was the day I'd get to cross it off. But this week has been a fuckin doozy, to put it lightly, so instead of closing my capitalism screen and sitting down at my creative pursuits screen I'm going to send this barely-an-update from my phone and then do 45 minutes of needlepoint before I have to go get my little monster at daycare.
If you're also burned out in all directions, I hope you'll take this as a sign that you should also sacrifice a “should” and use that time for your own mental health instead.
Hang in there, friends. This ride shows no signs of getting less bumpy.
PS I won't leave you without a random joy. Earlier this week I did a photoshoot for my day job on a farm, and in addition to the actual focus of the shoot we were all delighted to be distracted by the litter and a half of kittens that the farmer's daughter brought out to climb all over us. How I resisted bringing this little void home, I have no idea.
This needlepoint work is so beautiful!
